Here is a guide which summarizes all the finishes that we offer, in order to allow you to choose the finish (s) that will best suit to obtain the desired result :
VARNISHES
Why use a varnish for a label finish?
There are a multitude of varnishes: glossy, matte or even satin ... All have the same objective: to bring contrast to the label while giving it protection. The selected varnish is different depending on the effect you want to give to the label. To do this, you need to ask yourself several questions: Where will the label be positioned? What is the environment that awaits your product? What shapes and materials do you use for the packaging and what will the design be?
It is possible to add specificities to the label with a 3D varnish, which will only highlight or highlight part of the design: text, drawing, shape, etc. You can also opt for a braille varnish, a partial varnish (which will allow you to affix a stamp with an expiration date on the part of the label that has not been varnished) or other types of varnish available for quotation. custom made.
We have compiled for you the list of varnishes available in web to print and / or in tailor-made quotes:
GLOSSY VARNISH
Gloss varnish is the most standard finish for the best value for money. It helps protect the print by giving it a glossy finish. The gloss varnish is available in web to print and in tailor-made quotes. The gloss varnish is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- Coated paper with removable paper
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Transparent glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Pearlescent creative paper for winery
Warning: The gloss varnish is not suitable for labels of wine bottles sold in boxes. Indeed, the friction of the bottles during transport can quickly damage the label. If you intend to use your label for wine bottles packaged in cardboard boxes, we strongly recommend that you use a gloss lamination to provide a higher level of protection.
MATTE VARNISH
The matt varnish provides access to a matt finish at a very advantageous price. It protects the print by giving it a silky finish that preserves the colors of the label. The matt varnish is available in web to print and in tailor-made quotes. The matt varnish is available with the following materials:
SPOT VARNISH
Spot or partial varnish helps highlight certain elements of the label. The varnish is applied only to a few areas of the label so as to create a contrast between matte and shiny effect (depending on the material). Selective varnish can have several benefits: drawing attention to specific elements of the label in order to highlight them or embellishing the label with contrasts. The elements to be varnished must be large enough to facilitate machine setting and to avoid any lag. The partial varnish is available in a matt or glossy version and is available for a customized quote. The partial varnish is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP)
- Transparent polypropylene (PP)
- Polyethylene
- Pearlescent paper
- Kraft paper
PRINTABLE VARNISH
Printable varnish consists of protecting the entire print except a part on which we will be able to transplant with a pen or a machine directly on the label. This varnish is often used in the food sector to protect the entire label except for a small insert (left in a matte finish) on which the expiration date of the product will be transplanted, for example. The mat or shiny transplantable varnish is available with a tailor-made quote. The transplantable varnish is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP)
- Transparent polypropylne (PP)
- Polyethylene
- Tintoretto natural paper
- Pearlescent paper
- Kraft paper
- Fluorescent papers
- Clear to clear substrate
GOLD OR SILVER GLITTER VARNISH
The glitter varnish provides a luminous finish to the label and leaves a textured effect to the touch. The sequins are integrated directly into the varnish in order to deposit a homogeneous layer of sequins. The glitter varnish is available in a custom quote. The glitter varnish is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP)
- Transparent polypropylene (PP)
- Polyethylene
- Clear to Clear substrate
3D VARNISH OR INFLATABLE VARNISH
Inflatable varnish is a process used in finishing technique to enhance certain areas of the label. To give a 3D rendering, the varnish will be superimposed in several layers of a controlled thickness on the previously printed label, until the desired effect is achieved. The 3D or swelling varnish brings a "raised" texture to the areas of the label to be highlighted. The gloss and 3D rendering brings a premium look to the label. The swelling varnish is available with a tailor-made quote. The 3D or swelling varnish is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP)
- Transparent polypropylene (PP)
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Tintoretto natural paper
- Pearlescent paper
- Clear to Clear substrate
- White centaure paper
- Tyvek
BRAILLE VARNISH
Braille varnish is a finishing process used to reproduce the Braille alphabet on Braille labels. On the labels, certain statements and recommendations are mandatory and must appear on many products so that blind or visually impaired people can read the information in a tactile manner. Braille varnish is therefore a swelling varnish that meticulously respects the Braille character standards: intangible width and thickness. The braille varnish finish is available at a tailor-made quote. Braille varnish is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP)
- Transparent polypropylene (PP)
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Clear to Clear substrate
- Tyvek
LUMINESCENT VARNISH
The luminescent label is a label visible in UV light or black light. It is made from a paper or synthetic support on which we deposit a luminescent varnish (luminescent inks) which will activate in the light. Luminescent labels are useful if you choose transparent paper, in fact it allows you to add laying cells on the back so that the machine can detect them at the time of laying (provided the machine is equipped with this system). Luminescent varnish can also detect counterfeiting, which is why it is often used in the wine sector (wine, alcohol, champagne). The luminescent varnish is available in a custom quote. The luminescent varnish is available with the following materials:
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Transparent polypropylene (PP)
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Clear to Clear substrate
LAMINATING
Why use a lamination for a label finish?
Lamination is a technique that allows you to add a thin layer of shiny or matte polypropylene (depending on the desired effect) to the print to give a perfect finish to the label. Above all, lamination provides an additional layer of protection to the label. Here are the different film coatings that we offer in web to print and / or in tailor-made quotes:
GLOSSY LAMINATION
Gloss lamination is a thin layer of glossy transparent polypropylene (PP) affixed to the print. It optimally protects the label and gives it a very shiny appearance. The glossy lamination is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Transparent glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
MATTE LAMINATION
Matte lamination is a light layer of transparent polypropylene (PP) with a mat effect deposited on top of the print. It aims to provide additional protection to the print and give a matte finish to the label. However, this matt appearance is sensitive to scratches. Matte lamination is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Transparent polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
SOFT TOUCH LAMINATION
The soft touch lamination allows you to deposit a thin layer of transparent matt polypropylene (PP) to protect the print against UV rays and scratches. It is a finish that gives a premium edge to the label and leaves it with a pleasant “peach skin” feeling to the touch. Soft touch lamination is available with the following material:
NON-SLIP FILM COATING
The non-slip coating is a thin layer of transparent matt sandblasted polypropylene (PP). It protects the print against UV rays and scratches. Small particles of sand make the surface of the label slip-resistant to ensure maximum safety. It is mainly used for non-slip floor labels such as floor markings labels. The anti-slip lamination is available with the following material:
FOILING
Why use foiling for a label finish?
Foiling is a printing process used as a finishing touch to embellish certain details of the label. It is a film with shades of gold, silver or other colors that is applied to a specific part of the label by pressure. The aim is to bring originality and elegance to the label while reinforcing the high-end appearance of the product. There are two foiling techniques: hot foiling and cold foiling. Here are the types of foiling available in tailor-made quotes:
HOT FOILING
Hot gilding allows gilding elements to be applied to the label using a heated metal plate which will transfer the location of the label intended for gilding using pressure using the transfer of 'a gold, silver, rose gold or other color film. Hot-foil stamping enhances the intensity and brilliance of the golden color of the label by giving it a slight relief. It brings a premium aspect to the products. This is a technical process, for which you must request a tailor-made quote. Hot foil is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP)
- Transparent polypropylene (PP)
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Pearlescent paper
- Natural uncoated paper (Tintoretto)
- White Centaure paper
- Crush Grape paper
- Fleury Chêne paper
- PEBioB film
- Marblebase paper
- Clear to clear substrate
COLD FOILING
Cold foil stamping does not require heat or pressure transfer. It is a bonding primer (ink) which will transfer the pattern to the label, once the ink has been deposited on the material via a cliché (pattern), the metallic film is deposited above and only the part in contact with the ink will be transferred to the label. The metallized film is transferred by a phenomenon of pressure and heat thanks to the cliché, which has been heated upstream, so by applying pressure on the cliché, the desired pattern is deposited on the label. With this process, the gilding effect will be present thanks to a metallic appearance, however there will be no relief effect as with hot gilding. This is a technique, for which you must request a tailor-made quote. Cold foil is available with the following materials:
- Coated paper with permanent adhesive
- White glossy polypropylene (PP) with permanent adhesive
- Silver metallic polypropylene (PP)
- Transparent polypropylene (PP)
- Polyethylene (PE)
- PEBioB film
- Clear to clear substrate
EMBOSSING
Why use embossing for a label finish ?
Embossing is a technique for obtaining a raised pattern on a specific area of the label. To obtain the relief, an embossing plate drawn in the desired pattern is used, then pressure is exerted on the plate in order to deform the material and obtain the desired volume effect on the label. The greater the pressure exerted, the more the relief will be accentuated depending on the material used. To achieve an even more premium effect, you can combine embossing and gilding on the label (available as a custom quote). The embossing therefore brings a tactile aspect to the label, this technique is only available on a tailor-made basis. Embossing is available with the following materials:
