HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ADHESIVE LABEL FOR YOUR OIL BOTTLES?
Labeling of oil bottles is a decisive step in the manufacturing process. Indeed, the label will allow future consumers to obtain all the important information about your oil before making a purchase. Whether you are a producer of olive oil, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil or even walnut oil, you must be vigilant about the information to be included on your labels in order to respect the current food and safety regulations.
Nowadays, there are more and more producers and resellers of oils, so it is important to seek to differentiate yourself from the competition with a personalized label. In order to make the difference, you can opt for paper supports which will reinforce the artisanal aspect of your production, or conversely seek to bring a "luxury" dimension to your bottles. To do this, play with colors, typographies and even formats! You can also opt for transparent paper which will allow you to highlight the color of your oil by transparency. With our wide range of papers and finishes, you can find a material that will enhance your products while setting you apart from the competition. Remember to design your designs keeping in mind that your label should reflect your craftsmanship and appeal to your target customers at first glance.
THE 7 MANDATORY MENTIONS TO APPEAR ON AN OLIVE OIL LABEL (IN FRANCE) :
# 1 : THE ORIGIN
Since July 1st, 2009, the place of harvest of olives and extraction of oil must be mentioned on the label. Indeed, the indication of the origin of virgin and extra virgin olive oils becomes compulsory for all producers and in all countries of the European Union. To indicate the origin of your production, you must take into account the geographical area in which your olives were harvested as well as the location where the oil was extracted. Thus, you can find several indications of origin on the labels such as for example the country in which the oil was produced: Origin France or olive oil from Italy ... The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) may also appear on it provided that your oil complies with all the specificities allowing this designation.
# 2 : THE COMMERCIAL NAME
The trade name, in other words the description of the product you are going to sell, must appear on the label. For Olive Oil, there are several possible names defined according to strict standards: Extra virgin olive oil, Virgin olive oil, Olive-pomace oil or Refined olive oil. This European classification was carried out by taking into account specific criteria: acidity rate, peroxide index ... You must take an interest in this classification in order to choose the right name to mention on your label.
# 3 : MANDATORY ADDRESS AND CONTACT
The name and address of the producer or the company name must appear on the label. The address mentioned allows you to give your customers an indication of the marketing manager (producer, confectioner, importer), it does not in any way give an indication of the place of origin of the olive oil. However, if you are a producer, the mention "producer" guarantees the origin of the olive oil to consumers. Thus, it induces that your olive oil comes from olives which have been harvested by you.
# 4 : THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF OLIVE OILS
Here are some additional explanations that may help you select the category of olive oil that applies to you.
- Virgin olive oil :It is an oil that is obtained directly from harvested olives and extracted only by mechanical processes.
- Extra virgin olive oil :It is an oil that can be classified in a higher category, it is obtained directly from harvested olives and extracted using mechanical processes only.
- Olive oil composed of refined olive oils and virgin olive oils : This olive oil contains exclusively oils that have undergone refining treatments and oils obtained directly from olives.
- Olive-pomace oil : This olive oil contains only oils that come from the processing of the juice obtained after the extraction of olive oil and oils obtained directly from the olives.
# 5 : CONSUMPTION DEADLINES, STORAGE CONDITIONS AND BATCH NUMBER
The expiration date must be mentioned on the label, in fact it allows customers to be given information on the maximum consumption date until which olive oil retains all its virtues and qualities. Once the minimum durability date has passed, olive oil could still be safely consumed, however it may have lost some flavor qualities. Each bottle of olive oil must have a batch number that allows the production to be traced.
# 6 : NET QUANTITY
You must enter the quantity present in the bottle of olive oil. You can choose to express it in Liters (L), in centiliters (cl) or in mililiters (ml).
# 7 : HAVE A FRANCE AGRIMER OPERATOR APPROVAL NUMBER (FRANCE)
Are you an olive oil producer or do you want to market olive oil? You must first be identified by the State services in order to obtain an identification number giving you the right to market your olive oil in France.
